How to help / Leave a Bequest

Writing your will is one of the most important things you’ll ever do, and there are some big decisions to make. You may wish to include a donation to a cause that means a lot to you, giving yourself a voice and impact far into the future.

By making a bequest to the Cambodian Children’s Trust (CCT), you join a special group of people who are passionate about helping children and families break free from the intergenerational cycle of poverty. It’s a gift that will be life changing for others, while also leaving a lasting legacy in your name.

Your gift will help us continue the valuable work we do in the Battambang community.

CCT’s holistic range of community, education and social enterprise services help children break the intergenerational cycle of poverty, while also promoting family preservation and reintegration.

“I love CCT like part of my family because they have helped me in many ways. CCT has made sure my mother has a safe place to live. They support my nieces and nephew to study and helped me study a range of skills. They help me a lot, and not just me but many other children. I want to use the skills I learnt to support my family. Before, I had a very hard life, but now I have the best life!” – Poly, CCT beneficiary

How your legacy will assist (and why we need you):

Your generous gift will help us continue our vital work across the below areas:

  • Social support services: CCT provide access to a range of ongoing social support, including: counseling and community outreach to families living on the streets.
  • Crisis intervention: The government child protection system in Cambodia is severely under-resourced. CCT’s social workers are on call 24/7 to respond to children and families during emergencies and times of heightened risk.
  • Family integration: The reintegration process is focused on family tracing, risk assessments, case planning, counseling, re-establishing relationships and supporting children to return happily and safely to the care of their biological family.
  • Healthcare: Cambodian children and families often find it difficult to access adequate healthcare due to the lack of services available and the high cost of medical treatment. CCT keeps children by giving them access to these facilities, as well as preventative healthcare measures, including vaccinations, regular health check-ups and hygiene classes. We also provide treatment for illnesses, injuries and mental health concerns, and support for children and their families living with chronic illnesses such as HIV and hepatitis.
  • Feed the future: CCT’s community youth centres and community preschool provide nutritious meals and clean drinking water to ensure students are happy and healthy.
  • Access to education: Our education programs give children a well-rounded education while enhancing their interest and engagement in our programs, ensuring they stay off the streets and enrolled in school.

Types of bequests

We are incredibly grateful for bequests of any size. You may want to consider the following options:

  • Leave a specific sum of money or an item bequeathed to CCT
  • Leave the residue or a percentage of an estate
  • Leave a life insurance or superannuation policy
  • Leave your whole estate (this is usually gifted by people without other beneficiaries)

How to leave a bequest

Making a bequest is an important decision, but doesn’t have to be complicated.

Step 1 – Make or update your will

Step 2 – Decide your gift

Step 3 – Notify CCT and your loved ones

If you’ve arranged to make a gift to CCT, we’d love to hear from you and have the opportunity to say thank you.

Getting the language right:

In adding a bequest to your will, we strongly recommend you consult with your lawyer or advisor. The following is a guide only, for your solicitor, on how to articulate your gift to CCT.

“I give [the sum of $………..] or [………..% of the residue of my estate] or [specified assets] to Cambodian Children’s Trust Australia ABN 83 158 383 558 (CCTA) for its general purposes. The receipt from any director or other authorised officer of CCTA will be an absolute discharge to my Executor/Trustee and I declare that my Executor/Trustee shall not be responsible for seeing to the application of that gift.”

Be sure to let the CCT team know at [email protected] if you are thinking of including us in your will.
