We will establish a pony club with an extensive rehabilitation programme. By interacting with horses, the children will develop skills in horsemanship while improving self-confidence, communication and trust with the horses and each other. They’ll be taught using compassionate methods to care for, ride and handle horses on a daily basis. This programme will endeavour to promote responsible behaviours, foster a connection to nature, teach respect for other living things and provide endless opportunities for learning life lessons.
A centre for impoverished children will always have a limit to the number of children it can house and provide care, support, relief and opportunities for a better life. So, unfortunately, there are many children in Cambodia who are in great need of help but will not receive it from NGOs. Many children’s centres in Cambodia often take in children who are not orphans in the traditional sense of the word. They often come from families who are simply too poor to support their children for even for such basic needs as food, satisfactory shelter, medical needs or any form of education. These children are often made to work to help support their family. There is no question though that if children are safe, they are always better off staying with their families. CCT will be developing an outreach programme for such cases to provide these children with the support they need whilst enabling them to stay with their families. CCT will provide a small outreach house in the province and assist the family with, basic living needs and initial support for food and school fees. The families will then be able to visit the outreach house where a nurse will provide medical support to the whole family, and children can attend English lessons. Parents will be offered vocational training workshops with view to eventually enabling them to have enough income to support their family.
Our plans include a restaurant /training school creating skilled employment for the children. The restaurant will target the tourist market and set a new standard for restaurants in the region. There’ll be (an) opportunities for the children to gain many skills, as our restaurant will need chefs, kitchen staff, waiters as well as marketing and management.
The permaculture and kitchen gardens will provide much of the produce. It is hoped that the restaurant will be a viable entity contributing to the overall sustainability of the orphanage.
