Social Business Programme
CCT is dedicated to creating long-term solutions in the fight against poverty. One means of achieving this aim is through the creation of social businesses that can provide regular, safe and reliable employment for people with significant barriers to employment.
A social business, as defined by micro-loan creator Muhammad Yunus, is a cause-driven business or company created to solve a social problem. Like an NGO, it has a social mission, but like a business, it generates its own revenues to cover its costs. The success of the business is not measured by the amount of profit made in a given period, but by its impact on the people it seeks to help.
All CCT's social businesses will be set up with the aim of becoming financially self-sustaining businesses as quickly as possible. They will provide employment and skills training to those in our Family Outreach Programme and any surplus revenue the business generates will be used to grow the business or as funding for other CCT projects.
The primary objectives of each CCT Social Business are to:
- overcome poverty by providing jobs and skills training for the poor
- be financially self-sustaining
- keep any profits within CCT for expansion and improvement of the business or related CCT projects
- provide employees with a fair market wage and above average working conditions and benefits
