All of CCT's children receive tutoring in English, Computers, Mathematics and Khmer Literature. Our tutoring program has increased their academic confidence and results. It also assists those who have only started school since arriving at CCT to catch up with other children their age.

Apsara Dancing

Apsara Dancing image

The CCT children learn the traditional art of Apsara dancing five days a week.

Cambodia's cultural heritage, including this ancient art form, was almost destroyed by the Khmer Rouge. In the years following the regime, Apsara dancing has regained its place as an integral part of Khmer culture. Some of the dances performed by CCT’s children date back to the 11th century, with the same graceful moves that would have been seen in the temples of Angkor Wat. Learning Apsara dancing helps our young people form a living link with a past that was almost destroyed forever and, at the same time, foster a pride in themselves and their cultural identity.

The children at CCT have only been learning Apsara dancing for a few months but have already mastered 3 dances, and are learning several more. Some of the costumes the children wear were sewn by Srey Orn Heng, who is currently undertaking a vocational training course and whose family we are assisitng through our Community Development Program.

The children love to perform and in the future we plan to hold performances in the evenings outside the Juey Bazaar shop.

All the children are currently enjoying learning to play traditional khmer instruments and learning traditional songs.

Every Sunday the children participate in Art class at CCT, which involves drawing and painting as well as arts and crafts. They learn traditional Khmer techniques as well as being encouraged to use their imagination and creativity.

We are never short of artworks depicting cartoon characters, flowers, animals, and Cambodian landscapes to decorate our walls with!

Check out the art created by our creative kids.
