Clean Up Days
On the 3rd of January 2009, CCT and GKG held our inaugural "Cleanup Battambang Day”.
The aim of this project is to beautify the town and develop community spirit and civic pride. Most importantly, the project aims to raise environmental awareness among young people, whose attitude in this regard will help determine future living standards.
The "Green Team” consisted of all CCT's children and staff, some 75 children from a local school, and seven volunteers from the ANZ Royal Bank in Battambang. We cleaned up a lot of rubbish along the Sangker River that runs through the centre of town. All the kids and volunteers involved were very enthusiastic and worked tirelessly. The day proved to be a shining example of what can be achieved with a little encouragement, education and awareness.
We have plans to hold bigger and better Cleanup Days. As our "Green Team" grows we'll be able to clean up a lot more of Battambang and also continue to educate the locals about the importance of caring for the environment. Future Cleanup Days will introduce recycling and sustainability workshops. We’ll run an advertising campaign to reach the wider community, promoting effective rubbish disposal, collection and community recycling programs.
If you’re interested supporting this project, have any ideas, or would like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.
