About the Children & Families we support
Our Children
All of the children living at Cambodian Children's Trust come from extremely vulnerable situations, ones in which they have suffered harm, hardship and neglect. To protect the privacy of our children we do not release specific details of their former situations, however, all have been victims of one or multiples of the following: rape, physical abuse, gross neglect, human trafficking or have been orphaned, most often by HIV/AIDS, with no competent living relatives.
CCT accepts these children once there are no alternative safe living options available. Our first priority is to determine whether we can work with any of the child's family members to help them rectify the situations that are causing the threat to the child. If there are no safe alternatives the child will come to live at CCT. You will notice that amongst our children there are a number of sibling groups. Our objective is to never break up siblings from a family unit, so if one child is taken from an unsafe situation to live at CCT, we will also take in all their brothers and sisters too.
It is hoped that through the safe, secure and loving environment created at our CCT homes, combined with access to education, good healthcare, proper hygiene and nutrition - sometimes for the first time in their lives, we can help the children overcome their past situations and move forward towards a brighter future.
Our families and the community
The individuals and families targeted for assistance within CCT's Community Development Program are some of the most disadvantaged members of the Battambang community. Living in abject poverty and under extremely difficult circumstances, they are lacking adequate housing, hygiene, health, nutrition, and education. Often children are made to live on the streets, scavenging through rubbish, begging or stealing to survive. Others are forced to live in shame and reduced to poverty due to AIDS-related stigma - the prejudice and discrimination directed at people living with the disease - that is so prevalent in Cambodia.
Through our Community Development Program targeting families, street kids and individuals in need throughout the Battambang region, we look forward to providing the skills, training, support and living assistance to help people improve their life circumstances.
